Advantages And Disadvantages Of Blogger/Blogspot And WordPress

Talking about both blogging platform, you will get to know that what has a disadvantage also has an advantage. Some persons may prefer blogger which is owned by Google over WordPress, while reverse may just be the case. Well, I fell both platforms are really very good, more especially when it comes to posting and other online services. But like I said, just as blogger is good, I feel that wordpress is still preferable to those of us that really need to own total control over our website.

I will try as much as possible not to side any party, but I will like to mention some advantages and disadvantages of both platforms which will be left for you to weigh and make a decision on your preferred one.

BLOGGER

I will start from blogger which is owned and hosted by Google. Blogger is a very creative body that proffers free hosting and unlimited bandwidth spaces to all her users. That means, if you are running your blog on BlogSpot, you don’t have to worry about paying for your hosting space and other services that demands you to pay bills. In as much as I am concern, blogger is really the best platform for all newbie’s; This is because you do not have to gain much knowledge about html, control panel and other self hosted related services. The most of all is that blogger is less vulnerable to hackers since it is owned and protected by Google. Interesting? Remember, I have not started with the disadvantages associated with it.

Now beside the fact that blogger is free, and you do not need much knowledge on Html, you can also customized and add up your own domain name without putting blogspot.com as part of your url. The default blogger url is www.loadedvilla.blogspot.com. Blogger lets you buy a domain name and redirect the aforementioned default url to something like this, www.loadedvilla.com. This gives your site a more professional look. Someone without an idea of webbing will not know that you are hosting on a free platform. There are so many advantages that I may not have all the time to mention.

There is an adage which states that anything that has an advantage also has a disadvantage. Now let me list out the various disadvantage of hosting your site on blogger. You will not have the freedom to control your website, since it is owned and controlled by Google. In as much as you are running your site on a free hosting, there is every tendency that your blog may be mistakenly deleted without your consent since you are not paying for any monthly or yearly subscription. Blogger does not give you the opportunity of storing any files on your site, you have to make a link to another site for your readers to be able to read and make downloads. Blogger have certain terms and conditions which you must obey for you to continue using their services. In a situation you default to any of their terms and condition, you blog may be deleted; you know what that means, all your long suffering from the onset will go down the drain.I guess I am done with blogger. Let me deal with wordpress in, my own perspective.

Comparing WordPress to blogger, you will find out that there are quite a lot of advantages. I will not say the other hosting service is bad cause I also prefer both and I started with blogger before I migrated to wordpress.

WordPress is a very creative common platform giving awesome services such as self hosting, file management and other enticing features. Unlike blogger that is being hosted by Google, you are given an opportunity to self host and control your site using a cpanel which your desired host provides you with. You also have the right to store your files, data and all other things on your cpanel; therefore giving you the medium to customize your site the way you want. Although that can be done with blogger but it is to an extent. There is this rumor that has it that wordpress is more seo friendly. I may not be able to prove the authenticity of such story, but all the same I still prefer both. Now to the other side of the story, wordpress is more vulnerable to malwares, viruses and hacks. You also have to pay your yearly subscription bills and manage a certain bandwidth level. In a situation you get large visitors, you may just run out of bandwidth which occurred to me just 4 days ago after I did my upgrade. You don’t have to edit your template html codes whenever you want to add a certain widget/plugin outside. All you have to do is to install. But there a certain times you may need to do some editing, but not as always as blogger.

I really love both blogging platform and recommend any of these to any one. This website you are seeing today started from blogger and later migrated to wordpress. So you can use any of the features and still be successful. I will be making a post on how you can move from blogger to wordpress without losing your seo traffic and feedburner subscribers soon.

Let me hear your own view concerning this using the comment box. Thanks
